Wallpaper & wallcovering
Wallpaper & Wallcovering Installation
A wallcovering is only as good as the wall beneath it. We prep, size and plan the hang so seams disappear, patterns land where they were planned, and the paper stays where it was put.
Prep, sizing and the plan
Before a single sheet is cut we repair and skim the wall, sand it smooth, and seal it with the sizing that suits the paper being hung — the wrong size is why grasscloth telegraphs patches and why seams lift. Then we set the layout: where the pattern starts, which wall carries the seam, how the design lands at the ceiling and around trim.
- Drywall repair, skim coating and sanding before hanging
- Sizing matched to the paper so seams hold and glue bites
- Pattern layout set before cutting, with a plan for the seams
- Grasscloth, vinyl, murals and heritage papers each handled differently
- Clean, dry, protected rooms while the paper sets
Grasscloth, murals and large-format prints
Natural fibers and printed panels each have their own rules. Grasscloth shows every patch beneath it and cannot be pasted like vinyl; large-format murals have to be sequenced so the image lands across the elevation without a visible join. We book the time those materials need instead of forcing them into a standard schedule.
Removal and what comes next
Taking old paper off properly — steaming, soaking and getting the paste down to the plaster — is most of the difference between a wall that repaints cleanly and one that keeps lifting. When a room is going back to paint, removal and repair are quoted in the same scope.
Where we have worked
Wallpaper Installation has been completed across Long Island — Nassau County and Suffolk County, including the Hamptons and the East End — plus New York City and Westchester County.
Questions
Frequently asked
- Can you hang paper the homeowner supplied?
- Yes. We ask to see the material and the pattern repeat before quoting so the layout and seam plan are right, and we will tell you if a paper needs a different wall prep than the one planned.
- Do you repair walls before hanging?
- Yes — patching, skim coating and sizing are part of the job. Wallcoverings telegraph every defect, so the prep is what makes the finished wall look seamless.
- How long does a mural or large-format wall take?
- Usually one to three days depending on the wall size, the pattern match and how much prep the surface needs. Your estimate spells out the prep and the hang.
- Can you remove old wallpaper?
- Yes — steaming, soaking and paste removal down to the plaster, followed by repair and prep for whatever finish the room gets next.
